Seaside Volleyball
Club offers
developmental and
elite level
competitive teams at
age levels 13 thru
18. The club offers
private instruction,
clinics, camps and
group volleyball
training sessions
year-round as well.
The club operates
out of the San Diego
Volleyball
Club/Seaside
Volleyball Club
facility in Rancho
Bernardo. At the
present time, the
club also sponsors
programs in the
South County at Otay
Ranch High School
and in the East
County at Granite
Hills High School.
In '07, Seaside
sponsored
competitive teams in
the La Jolla area as
well.
In addition to the
central facility in
Rancho Bernardo, the
club also rents the
Del Mar Sports
Center during the
winter months when
extra courts are
needed for all of
the competitive
teams to practice
in.
At the present time,
Seaside has four 18
and under teams,
three 17 and under
teams, two 16 and
under teams, one 15
and under team, and
a 14 and under team
training and
competing regularly
in the Orange
County/Anaheim/Los
Angeles areas
year-round.
In addition to these
above programs, the
club offers Sunday
"Jumpstart" clinics
for boys ages 9 to
13. The San Diego
Volleyball Club (a
girls club) works
with Seaside to
offer even more
volleyball
instruction for boys
and girls year-round
as well. They
sponsor open gym
time for adults,
kids, high school
players, and offer
tournaments.
Seaside coaches
often work with the
San Diego Volleyball
Club coaches to
share in the
instruction load.
Both clubs work
closely together to
provide the
necessary teaching
assistance that
comes with expanded
programs.
In August, Seaside
sponsors the Next
Level Volleyball
Camp for high school
and middle school
players. The camp
features top local
coaches from around
the county as well
as collegiate and
international
players to teach
fundamentals and
tactics essential to
reaching the 'next
level' in
volleyball.
The club offers two
tryouts (one in mid
September and one in
late May). The Fall
competitive programs
run from late
September to late
January for the high
school level teams
and from January to
May for the middle
school teams. In
June, the club
starts back up for
the high school boys
and gears up for the
Southern California
Regionals in late
June, and then the
nationals (Sandy,
Utah in '08) in
early July. The
qualifying
tournament for all
the teams for the
open division of
nationals takes
place over the
Martin Luther King
weekend in January
in the Los Angeles
area. The National
tournament is
sponsored by USA
Volleyball and is
located in different
parts of the
country,
year-to-year.
The club has been
operating since
1989. The founder
and director, Fred
Featherstone, is
still at the helm of
operations and
oversees all of the
club's business
including hiring,
training players and
coaches, financial
matters, scheduling,
parental support,
and team/player
selection. Fred has
an outstanding array
of experienced,
loyal, competent
coaches to work
with, and the annual
contingency of many
enthusiastic,
hard-working parents
who sacrifice a lot
of personal time to
help govern the
club. Seaside has a
longstanding
tradition of
success, and the
quality of the
parents willing to
help is unsurpassed
county-wide on an
annual basis.
Costs for the year
to play on a
competitive team
vary between $1800
to $3300 depending
on the competitive
level and months of
commitment. All
fees help cover all
administrative costs
including, coach
salaries, gym
rental, equipment,
entries, SCVA
registration,
coach/director/team
parent travel costs
among other things.
Seaside Boys
Volleyball Club is
one of only three
clubs nationally
that have won three
National
Championship Titles
(all at 18 and
under) over the past
20 years.

Featherstone at

competitive club but
